In 1943 Fort Dodge radio station KVFD launched the Your Letter from Home project based on a similar project begun by a radio station in Montgomery, Alabama. Station staff composed letters with news of home and fellow soldiers for service men and women from Fort Dodge, Webster County and various other northwest Iowa locales. Edward G. Breen was born on June 10, 1908, to John and Katherine Breen. His father was manager of the Philips House Hotel in downtown Dayton, and Edward was born in a room there. Edward earned a bachelor's degree from University of Dayton, then went on to continue his studies at the Ohio State University.
